Resumen
AMARO CANO, María del Carmen. Síntesis biográfica de Martina Guevara Molina. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.2, pp. 122-124. ISSN 1561-2961.
A limited bibliographic review was made by consulting secondary sources in the Library of "Carlos J. Finlay" Sciences Museum about the foundation of the first Health Secretariat in Cuba and in the world and about the establishment of the Nursing School of "Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes" Hospital. Reports from the National Nursing Association of Cuba, founded in 1909, as well as biographies and writings from that time about this hospital and its Nursing School were also reviewed. The objective of this bilbliographic search was to give our present nurses and nursing students a minimum basic information on Martina Guevara Molina, one of the first graduates from the first Nursing School of Cuba, in 1902. She distinguished herself for her professional identity expressed in her active participation in the setting up of the National Nursing Association of Cuba and for having being the first Cuban nurse that received theoretical and practical training as a nursing teacher. Her life should be seriously studied starting from a protocol of historical research that allows to get closer to such an important personality of this profession, and that serves as a means to stimulate the reinforcement of this vocation and the identity of the present and future Cuban nursing professionals.
