A bibliographic review of the documentary written sources located in the main centers of the capital of the country was made. Information was obtained about the most important ephemerides of Cuban nursing since the foundation of the first Nursing School in the country up to now. The work done cannot be considered as concluded, since it is necessary to review even more the sources corresponding to the republican period and, specially, to the period of the Cuban Revolution. This first attempt to rescue the most outstanding facts and figures of the profession is aimed at motivating the new generations of nurses and the present students to search more information so as to widen and go deep into the knowledge about the historical development of nursing in the country and to contribute this way to promote a higher professional identity.
