Resumen

MULET ROBELLO, Caridad  y  GUILLEN FONSECA, Martha. Estrategia educativa de saneamiento ambiental del río Luyanó de Ciudad de La Habana. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.2. ISSN 0864-0319.

A number of studies have shown a marked association between the environmental pollution and the presence of environmental risk diseases within the city in addition to the environmental damage in general caused by solid wastes and liquid residues. In Havana City the most vulnerable municipalities to deterioration caused by the environmental pollution from Rio Luyano are: Habana Vieja, 10 de Octubre, San Miguel del Padrón and Regla and also, 3 200 inhabitants who live around the river are affected by the lack of control of liquid residues and solid wastes dumped into the river. A descriptive research was designed and its more relevant results are related to the knowledge about the population and their negative attitudes and practice. Another important aspect is that they use the river water for spraying domestic grows, which is a health risk and at the same time a damage to the environment in these localities. In analyzing these results, an educational intervention strategy was designed in these territories aimed at the whole population with the participation of schools and workplaces, making emphasis on the children that would be part of the environmental clubs and would act in the context of these clubs, in the community and the workplaces so as to promote healthy behaviors.

Palabras clave : URBAN SANITATION; STRATEGIES; HEALTH EDUCATION; ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION [prevention and control]; FRESH WATER [microbiology]; EPIDEMIOLOGIC SURVEILLANCE.
