An anonymous survey was administered to 30% of the nursing staff of Trinidad municipality from February to June 2001, aimed at exploring their knowledge on bioethics. Fifty nursing care processes were examined to evaluate to what extent these pieces of knowledge are applied to the implementation of this process. The descriptive method was used. In general, the results revealed difficulties in the theoretical knowledge, but the qualifications were mostly correct in the assessment of the implementation of bioethical principles to the different stages of the nursing care process. These outcomes confirm the need of giving the nursing staff systematic courses on bioethics so as to assure more extensive and humanitarian care to patients and relatives.
