Abstract

FERREIRA MOURA, Escolástica Rejane; PEREIRA RODRIGUES, Maria Socorro  and  MAGALHAES DA SILVA, Raimunda. Percepcões de enfermeiros e gestantes sobre a assistência pré-natal: uma análise á luz de king. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.3. ISSN 0864-0319.

The present descriptive paper is aimed at analyzing the nursing assistance given at the prenatal stage on the basis of perceptions of nurses and pregnant women. Data were collected in 8 municipalities of the state of Ceará, Brazil from May to June,2001 through direct observation by participants, interviews to pregnant women, answers to questionnaires and note-summary reviews. The sample was made up of 30 nurses and 30 pregnant women. Results were analyzed using King´s theory. It was observed that nurses established satisfactory interaction with the patients and assisted in validating the following assumptions of King´s theory: the process of interaction is affected by the perceptions of nurse and patient; the nurse should tell the patient about health care aspects, which takes into account the right of the patient to receive information on health care and consequently, participate in decisions that influenced health; the agreement between the perceptions of nurses and those of patients as to the professional performance facilitated the transaction, that is to say, a suitable environment around nurses and patients for the attainment of goals. The nurses showed that they had proper technical knowledge and positive attitude in favor of systematizing nursing assistance, although they do not put it into practice.
