Abstract

We carried out a descriptive study about the traumatism cranium encephalic in 107 patients with this affection of the 1153 that they were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit Paediatric (ICUP), of the Paediatric Hospital Juan Manuel Marquez at the municipality of Marianao, in the period of January to September, in the years 2001 and 2002. The clinical records were revised searching the incidence of the requirement or not of mechanics ventilation, age, sex and quality of the expenditure. And also carried out a bibliographical revision, being the fundamental complications (cerebral Edema, Hydrocephalic, Convulsions, Haematoma intracraneal and subdural, Infections intracraneals, Breathing Distress, Malnutrition. We also reviewed the symptomatology and the infirmary Attention, obtaining as a result that the 60% in the 2001 and the 61.7% in the 2002 of these cases were ventilated, and the 50% were patients between 7 to 12 years in the year 2001, and the year 2002 the 44,7% prevailed among 2 and 6 years, in both periods prevailed the masculine sex and the 85% go away alive in the 2001, while in the 2002 the 89,4% go away alive too. The results are presented in charts and graphics. The main Infirmary cares were selected.
