Abstract
OCHOA BORGES, Adriana and ENAMORADO ROSABAL, Neivis. Incidence of smoking patients in poblacional group. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2961.
Smoking predisposes the person to suffer from diseases such as lip, oral cavity, pharynx, lung and esophagus cancer. An descriptive and intervention study was conducted to determine the incidences of smoking patients during 2002 in "Victoria de Girón" Polyclinic, in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba. Sex, age, educational level, knowledge about the damage caused by smoking, feeling of the smoker and ingestion of alcoholic beverages, were assessed. The 236 smokers that were surveyed were included in the study. Most of the smokers were males aged 37 and over. The elementary school level predominated. They smoked to get rid of preoccupations, after drinking coffee, and they knew about the damage caused by smoking. The nursing intervention was carried out through educative chats and health lectures. The number of individuals that tried to give up smoking increased after this. These results may contribute to direct the efforts of family nurses and physicians to the fight against smoking in the health area where the study was conducted.
