The Cuban National Health System prioritized at a certain moment the training of nursing human resources to work later in the promotion of health and in the prevention of diseases. This training has taken place in an accelerated way and it has passed through different levels: assistant, technician and professional. Work has been carried out on the of Emerging Nursing Training Program to give an answer to the deficit of nurses in Havana City and 2 schools of new type have been created. At present, there is a period of transition where the subsystem of technical and higher nursing training are integrated to develop a new pedagogical model with three levels: basic nurse, technical nurse and nursing bachellor. The transformations occurred in the process of training nursing human resources motivated the conduction of the present study, for which a wide documental review on different related topics was made. It was concluded that all these transformations allowed to increase the quantity of this important resource with a high scientific and technical level, contributing to improve the health services and the quality of life of the people.
