Summary A descriptive reflective study was made aimed at analyzing the living conditions of the immigrant families from the point of view of the nurses acting in the context of collective health. Families that emigrated from the State to the capital of Ceará lived in the 2 areas that were visited. Information was gathered by means of photographies, free observation and conversations held with these persons during the visit. What they told was registered in the field dairy. It was observed that they lived in an inhuman, miserable and dramatic situation and that they are neglected the most basic needs, such as drinkning water, food, education and medical assistance. This situation could be alleviated by implementing measures promoting the development of a critical consciousness, displacing alienation and leading them to act with responsibility and dignity in the fight for human rights.
