Abstract
SILVA DE OLIVEIRA, Mariza; CARVALHO FERNANDES, Ana Fátima; MESQUITA MELO, Elizabeth and FALCAO JUVENAL BARBOSA, Izabel Cristina. Preoperative care of mastectomy under the woman's perception. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.2, pp.1-1. ISSN 0864-0319.
A descriptive and exploratory study was conducted in 10 women that were admitted in a hospital of Fortaleza-CE in the preoperative mastectomy period. The objective of this paper was to analyze the most received nursing cares and to verify their perception about this period. Data were collected by means of a semistructured interview. The results showed that 72 % referred having been guided by doctors and 14 % by male nurses. The laboratory tests and the taking of vital signs were the attentions most mentioned by the patients, with 29 % each. Finally, it was evidenced with these results that the woman that is going to undergo a mastectomy needs a network of support, guidance and interventions carried out by a multidisciplinary team with an active participation of the nursing personnel, since the preoperative care and the way it is given, as well as the necessary counseling, play an important role in the recovery process.
