Abstract

GARCIA MARTINEZ, Vivian; PORTALES MARTINEZ, Ida  and  ALMENARES ACUNA, Madelennis. Nursing care to pregnant women admitted in the maternal home of the Contramaestre municipality. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.3, pp.1-1. ISSN 0864-0319.

If the indicators used to evaluate the efficiency in the development of the Maternal Children Program are analyzed, there is no doubt that the Cuban national health system has put social institutions and sufficient material and human resources at the disposal of the people to attain the goals in the maternal children program. A descriptive study was conducted at the maternal home of Contramaestre municipality with 622 pregnant women admitted to assess the nursing care from January to December 2002 by different indicators, such as: average length of stay, occupational index, application of the Nursing Care Process, teaching of the Program of Responsible Maternity and Paternity, and the degree of satisfaction of the pregnant women. The control registries, admissions, discharges, attendance registries and the medical histories were reviewed. A survey was done to know the satisfaction degree of the pregnant women as regards food quality, conditions for sleeping and comfort, treatment received and return to the institution, if necessary. It was proved that there was a higher occupational index in the second semester at the expense of the increase of incomes by geographic situations. Most of the expectations were fulfilled and 99.2 % of the pregnant women felt satisfied with the received service. Therefore, it was concluded that on the basis of the indicators evaluated, nursing care at the maternal home of Contramaestre was good during the studied period.
