LEON ROMAN, Carlos Agustín. The uniform and its influence on social image. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2961.
Nursing, since its beginning has been accompanied with a symbol that characterizes it and gives it a significant meaning in its development as a profession. At present, despite the existing norms and the effort that is being made, frequent modifications, as well as an the incorrect wearing of the uniform are observed. To update and show the importance of the adequate wearing of the uniform and its attributes and social effects, a bibliographic review was made and experts on this topic from the health care and teaching fields were consulted in the first quarter of 2005. The essential elements for the correct wear of this uniform and for a good appearance of the nursing staff in the health care services are exposed. The nursing professionals are responsible for improving the current situation and for acting as change agents. A nurse or male nurse wearing the uniform correctly inspires confidence and is socially respected. The reasons given will allow to reassess the importance of the appropriate wearing of the uniform, a key element for a good social image of nurses.
