Abstract

Due to need of to find new therapeutics for cancer treatment, clinical assays using new substances, as antibodies and vaccines, have been increasing. Nurses like part of research staff must to be trained to executes a significant role, since success in applicationof treatment depends on its good professional perfomance. We made a bibliographic research on practice and experience of Nursing in Phase I clinical assays using gangliosides with patients presenting breast cancer and advanced melanoma from 2001 to 2002, performed in Experimental Chemotherapy of Nacional Institute of Oncology and Radiotherapy to analyze involmente of Nursing staff in these assays. We made a documentary analysis of the Good Clinical Practice and study protocols on that subject. We conclude that nurse in its fulfirment must to know protocol as a whole, emphasizing the product, pharmaceutical proerties, and dosis to be administered, and also to know the possible adverse reactions and measurement to apply.
