Abstract

IZQUIERDO, Geydi Belén; MORFI SAMPER, Rosa; REYES FIGUEROA, María de los Angeles  and  CABRERA LEAL, Gilsa Asunción. Study of gerocultural activities in "Eterna juventud" grandparents' house . Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2008, vol.24, n.2. ISSN 0864-0319.

Objective: to determine the influence of Geroculture in the Older Adult. To attain this objective the specific objectives were established and the variables, which were made operational, were identified. Methods: a descriptive retrospective study was conducted from December 2006 to March 2007 at "Eterna Juventud" grandparents' house located in 206 Espada Street between Jovellar and San Lázaro, in Cayo Hueso People's Council, Centro Habana municipality. The sample was composed of 31 grandparents. The information was gathered by a survey with the previous consent of the participants. The survey has 11 items that explored the general aspects of the sample, such as preferences for dancing, musical taste, favorite sociocultural activity, etc. All these data were statistically processed according to the variable and were presented in absolute frequency and percentages. Results: they allowed to conclude that Geroculture influences positively on the older adult's health. Conclusions: the gerocultural activities favor the image the older adult has of himself, of the family and of the society. Geroculture does not limit their intellectual development. Although they have knowledge about the gerocultural activities, the needs of the grandparents are not satisfied.
