BORGES DAMAS, Lareisy et al. Grounded Theory Applied to the Study of Humanized Care of Women during Childbirth. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.4, e2745. Epub 01-Dic-2019. ISSN 0864-0319.
Introduction:
Nursing care during childbirth requires special considerations towards women, and the nursing professional assumes an important role in this respect. The application of the grounded theory contributes to the appearance of theoretical constructs that explain humanized care in the social context under study.
Objective:
To apply the grounded theory to the study of humanized care for women during childbirth, in order to produce theoretical constructs that explain the studied phenomenon.
Methods:
Qualitative study during the period from March 2015 to March 2017, in a hospital in Artemisa Province, Cuba. Made up of three study groups, with nursing professionals, medical specialists in obstetrics, and women hospitalized in the puerperium service of the study unit, respectively. Qualitative research techniques were used, such as interviews and observation, and a grounded theory was applied.
Results:
Observations and interviews were conducted on doctors, nursing professionals and women. Categories and subcategories appeared. The centralized category is the humanized care of women during childbirth, based on four subcategories that give it dimension: obstetric nursing, women in labor and delivery, the hospital context, and nursing care.
Conclusions:
The resulting theoretical proposal investigated new positions to conceive the process of childbirth from the humanism of nursing professionals and contributed with a new vision to the phenomenon that will serve to reflect on the quality of obstetric nursing care.
