Introduction:

The global teenage pregnancy rate is estimated at 46 births per 1000 girls, while teenage pregnancy rates in Latin America and the Caribbean continue to be the second highest ones worldwide, estimated at 66.5 births per 1000 girls aged 15-19, only surpassed by those in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the report "Accelerating progress toward the reduction of adolescent pregnancy in Latin America and the Caribbean."

Objective:

To analyze the stigmatization of the system pregnant adolescent according to Betty Neuman's theory.

Methods:

Descriptive and cross-sectional study with 57 adolescents controlled at Chacarilla de Otero Health Establishment of the Lima East Network of the Ministry of Health in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, during 2018. The information was obtained through the stigmatization scale of the pregnant adolescent, which presents construct validity and reliability with Cronbach's alpha.

Results:

On family disappointment and shame, 42% responded that they sometimes felt stigmatization in both cases; in relation to the fear of the family, 53% said that they perceived this fear all the time; regarding the health personnel, 58% responded that they had felt discriminated against most of the time that they were treated; regarding intimidating looks in public places, 77% felt aggrieved most of the time; regarding the attitude of their neighbors, 65% felt shame before them; and, regarding their peers, 68.0% felt prejudiced looks.

Conclusion:

The normal and flexible line of defense proposed by Betty Neuman was found to be altered in the investigated adolescents, becoming a universal preconception risk. The stressing factors described were physical, mental and emotional immaturity, family and social prejudice (health personnel, neighbors, and peers), feelings of fear, shame and disappointment.
