Abstract

BECQUER, C. J et al. Effect of the inoculation with rhizobia from Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), under field conditions. Pastos y Forrajes [online]. 2012, vol.35, n.1, pp.57-66. ISSN 0864-0394.

A field trial was conducted, with the objective of determining the effect of rhizobium strains on the agronomic variables of sorghum, under the environmental conditions of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. Twelve Bradyrhizobium sp. strains from Sancti Spiritus were used, as well as three reference strains belonging to different rhizobium genera and species. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with 17 treatments and four replications. Variance analysis was made and the differences among means were found by Fisher's LSD (p<0,05). Aerial dry weight, stem length and ear length were evaluated. In addition, the increase of aerial dry weight in the inoculated treatments was calculated, as compared to the absolute control. The results proved the capacity of these strains to influence the studied agronomic variables, because there were treatments that statistically equaled their values to those of the fertilized control and showed an increase higher than 100% of aerial dry weight with regards to the absolute control.
