Resumen

OLIVERA, Yuseika; MACHADO, R; RAMIREZ, J. F  y  CASTANEDA, Lisset. Evaluation of the establishment of a collection of Brachiaria brizantha accessions associated to Stylosanthes guianensis CIAT-184. Pastos y Forrajes [online]. 2012, vol.35, n.2, pp.153-164. ISSN 0864-0394.

On a low-fertility, acid soil (pH ~ 4,9), a collection of 20 Brachiaria brizantha accessions associated to Stylosanthes guianensis CIAT-184 was studied, in order to evaluate its agronomic performance during the establishment stage. For such purpose, 5 x 4 m plots were used, with three replications. The measured and/or estimated indicators were: survival percentage (15, 30 and 45 days), plant height, leaf abundance, vigor, affectations caused by pests and infestation by diseases. For interpreting the results, the principal component analysis was used. In the first 45 days the accessions CIAT-16317, CIAT-26032, CIAT-16485 and the cv. Mulato reached the best survival rates (over 90%). After 45 days a high variability (90,30%) was detected for the first two components. When grouping the accessions, the formation of seven groups was identified, in some of which tall individual plants prevailed, and in others, plants with good vigor and leafiness were predominant. In general, it can be concluded that there was an acceptable performance of the association between the B. brizantha accessions and S. guianensis CIAT-184, because all of them to a larger or lesser extent- fulfilled the establishment stage. The accessions of groups IV, V and VII stood out, because they showed positive results (over the mean) in two indicators from the three estimated ones. To continue the evaluation of the exploitation stage of this germplasm with animals is recommended, so that it is possible, in the near future, to select the most outstanding accessions throughout the experimental stage.
