Abstract

QUINTANA RIVERON, Tania Yamilé; LUGONES BOTELL, Miguel A; GONZALEZ ORAMAS, Elizabeth  and  RODRIGUEZ LABAUT, Tamara. Comparación de dos tratamientos: propóleos y lugol, en pacientes con cervicitis aguda. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1996, vol.12, n.3, pp.255-263. ISSN 0864-2125.

A double blind clinical assay of those patients who were diagnosed with acute cervicitis at the "Jorge Ruiz Ramírez" Community Teaching Polyclinic from January 1st, 1993 to December 31st, 1993, and that received medical care at the physician office No.15, was carried out. The sample was selected according to the table of randomized numbers, and different variables were analyzed such as: age, symptoms and signs found, main microorganisms, clinical evolution, and treatment response. It was concluded that most of the patients suffering from acute cervicitis were between 20 and 29 years, and that propolis alleviated the low abdomen pain associated with postcoitum bleeding and the vaginal prutitus faster and more effectively than lugol. Moreover, it was found that propolis is higly effective for treating moniliasis and vaginal trichomoniasis with significant results. The 84,0 % of the patients with acute cervicitis treated with propolis were cured against 50 % of those treated with lugol.

Keywords : CERVICITIS [drug therapy]; PROPOLIS [therapeutic use]; IODINE [therapeutic use]; POTASSIUM IODINE [therapeutic use]; CLINICAL TRIALS; DRUG ADMINISTRATION SCHEDULE; ADMINISTRATION INTRAVAGINAL.
