A study was conducted about the knowledge of alcoholism and the degree of family communication with the alcoholic that can make easy or difficult the family contribution to the alcoholic's rehabilitation. The learning needs of these groups of families of alcoholic patients were identified aimed at diagnosing the situation of the population as regards the knowledge to contribute adequately to the rehabilitation of these patients in the central health area of the municipality of Camagüey, province of Camagüey, during the first semester of 1995. The results are processed by using methods of hierarchical arrangement of problems in order to prepare the intervention. It is recommended its use as a previous phase in the family intervention of educative character in the community.
