Abstract

HERRERA GOMEZ, Vivian; RODRIGUEZ DOMINGUEZ, Lourdes; FEBLES TARDIO, Luis  and  GOMEZ CUERVO, Julia. Incidencia de la sífilis durante el embarazo. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1997, vol.13, n.4, pp.352-358. ISSN 0864-2125.

A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases of the "Nugyen Van Troi" Teaching Polyclinic from 1993 to 1995, aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality due to sexually transmitted diseases among pregnant women. All the epidemiological surveys applied to pregnant women with positive serology by this Departament were reviewed. All the variables necessary to study these women who finally had a syphilis diagnosis were used. As a result of our work we found an incidence of syphilis during pregnancy of 28.66 x 1 000 pregnant women. There is a high percentage of syphilis at ages between 15 and 19 years. Most of them are black women. The number of married women with low cultural level is remarkable. Housewives predominated in the occupational category. A great amount of cases were diagnosed during the first trimester. Of all the cases, only 4 had dermatological manifestations and 34 received elective treatment. No case of congenital syphylis was reported.
