An updated theoretical review on the therapy, prevention and control of scabies is offered based on the literature reviewed in the MEDLINE and LILACS data bases, and on the Cuban medical literature from 1987 to 1996. Some classics on the topic, found in the information organs of the National Medical Information System, as well as the metodological instructions containing the development of the strategies of the Ministry of Public Health for 1996, are also included. Other aspects of interest, such as the mode of transmission and the clinical manifestations are approached.
