A descriptive study of 3 physicians'offices from Santos Suárez polyclinic was carried out in 1996 aimed at determining the incidence of breast cancer and the use of early diagnosis methods. It is stressed that 600 randomly chosen women over 20 were included in the sample, who were screened and applied a survey. The breast cancer incidence rate was 3 %. 22.5 % of sampled women was clasified as high breast cancer risk subjects whereas 83.3 % of detected breast cancer was found in high risk women over 50. 58.2 % of them has no idea about the breast self-examination and 64 % does not put it into practice. 45.1 % of women has never been breast-screened before
