A descriptive-explorative study of 81 patients affected by epidemic neuropathy was undertaken from January 1st, 1993 to January 1st, 1997 (4 years) in Lajas municipality, Cienfuegos province. These patients were followed-up by family doctors and nurses. They were interviewed, examined and given a questionnaire so as to gather data of interest such as sex, age, race, clinical condition, toxic habits, symptoms, sign and sequelae. The females prevalled (66.6 %) and the most affected age groups were 25 to 44 and 45 to 64 years; 44.5 % had peripheral neuropathy whereas 32 % presented optical neuropathy. Stress was the related factor in 64.2 %. The most common symptoms were weakened lower limbs, and reduced visual acuity as well as the most noted sign was sensitivity disorders. Favourable evolution predominated among patients and sequelae were related to toxic habits. The Chi-square statistical significance test was applied and the main results are shown in tables
