This research was simed at exploring the degree of motivation and upgrading of the family physicians serving the population at there health areas in the city of Matanzas. 124 physicians were surveyed from March, 1996, to March, 1997. Most of them felt fairly motivated. Some of the conditions that caused their unsatisfactions were bibliography, the insufficient support of the mass organizations and of the people’s councils, and the difficulties existing at the places they worked in. There were favorable criteria about the family physician program. It was observed a poor participation of these physicians in upgrading activities
