Bronchial asthma is an important health problem in primary health care. It is known that an adequate treatment of the disease helps to improve the quality of life of these patients. The main pharmacological aspects (actions, indications, side effects, administration and dosage) of the 2 most used groups of drugs in the therapeutics of the disease that are: the bronchodilators (salbutamol, theophylline, and ipratropium bromide), and the antiinflammatory drugs (disodium cromoglycate and glucocorticoids) are reviewed.
