Abstract

GARCIA VINIEGRAS, Carmen R. Victoria. Manual para la utilización del cuestionario de salud general de Goldberg: Adaptación cubana. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.1, pp.88-97. ISSN 0864-2125.

In this paper we present the origin and general characteristics of Goldberg’s General Health Questionnarie and what we can call a manual to use it in our environment, which would allow to compare our results in this field with those obtained in other countries. This is very important due to its wide spreading at the international level. The result of the validation study carried out in a sample of 237 adults is reported. The psychometric indicators of the General Health Questionnarie (GHQ), the basic statistic indicators, the realibility coefficients, and the factorial structure of the scale were calculated by the method of main components and varimax rotation. The mean scoring obtained in this study was 13.23 with a standard deviation of 7.00. The value of Cronbach’s alpha coefficient calculated for our series was 0.89 whereas the high and positive correlation with Beck’s depression rating scale was r = 0.92, and with Spielberg’s Trait Status anxiety rating scale was r = 0.85. The factorial analysis showed the existance of a first factor that accounts for 47 % of the total variance, a factor of general health having to do with the positive affections and with a feeling of general well-being
