Abstract

This cross-sectional study was designed to characterize drug preacription in Primary Health Care in Havana City. To this end, a sample of 4 municipalities (Centro Habana, Arroyo Naranjo, Playa and Guanabacoa) was selected at random by a combined sampling based on the technique of clusters proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). 2 400 individuals entered the study. A questionnarie was designed by previously trained survey ors and applied to each patient. The variables needed for the calculation of indicators were collected. 18 % of the patients attended at the physicians office did not receive any prescription. The most prescribed drugs at the family physicians office in the capital were the analgesics (34.6 %) followed by the antibiotics (23.7 %). The average prescription by visit was 1.3. 19.6 % of first certificates were issued in Havana City. More than 98 % of the persons that attended the family physicians office felt satisfied with the attention received
