Summary: A descriptive study was conducted in a health area of Boyeros municipality. 114 pregnant women caught between October, 1995, and March, 1996, were included. The doctor filled out a standardized model at each visit. We proposed ourselves to describe the expectants´ health problems, analyzing the behavior of the main problem and the prescription of drugs. Anemia (49,5 %) was the commonest health problem. The most used drugs were the prenatal tablets, ascorbic acid, tetanus toxoid, and iron fumarate. Of 54 patients with anemia, only 19 (35 %) had normal figures of hemoglobin at the end of pregnancy. The use of iron salts in the different trimesters was lower than the number of anemic patients. There was a low dewscription of iron salts, which would justify the reduced amount of anemic patients that reached normal figures of hemoglobin on concluding pregnancy.
