A descriptive cross-sectional study of 151 patients from the Family Planning Department of the "Santos Suárez" Polyclinic was conducted between April and June, 1997, aimed at showing how some bioethical aspects influence on the selection, and continuity of the use of contraceptive methods, and on the satisfaction of the individual’s needs. A survey was done and patients were followed up for a year. Data were processed by percent calculation. It was concluded that the adequate technical training of the multidisciplinary team, the reported selection, the appropiate counseling, and the respect of the individual and sociocultural beliefs, and of the moral principles influenced on the positive results of the selection and continuity of the utilization of the contraceptive methods as well as on the satisfaction of the patients’ needs at the Family Planning Department.
