Abstract
DYCE GORDON, Elisa and CHIKUY FERRA, Miriam. Registro, incidencia y diagnóstico prenatal de las malformaciones congénitas mayores más severas. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.4, pp.403-408. ISSN 0864-2125.
A cross-sectional study of the 42 most severe major congenital malformations registered in 2 health areas of Camagüey municipality was carried out by reviewing medical histories, death certificates, necropsies and interviews to parents in order to express the importance of the registry of congenital malformations at the primary care level. The incidence of these birth defects tended to decline with the increase of the therapeutic abortions of the prenatally diagnosed fetuses. 59,52 % (n = 25) of all malformations were prenatally diagnosed by the quantitation of alpha-fetoprotein in maternal serum and ultrasonography. Through the register of congenital malformations it is possible to know their incidence along the years and to evaluate the program of prenatal diagnosis of these defects. That’s why, it must exist in all health areas.
