To contribute to an efficient medical history taking in the daily clinical practice it was made a presentation of its most important methodological aspects. The general guidelines that allow an appropiate assistance unfolding during the clinical interview and the obtention of the history were dealt with. The content of the adult patient’s hystory was arranged by using the following scheme: patient, identification data, chief complaint, personal history, family history, psychosocial history and review of systems. The relevant data collected in each section were approached.
