Abstract

A descriptive study was carried out in 3 municipalities of Havana during 1994-1997. All the selected elderly underwent PFEIFFEER´s test to rule out intelectual deficit. Intelectual deterioration was considered as an exclusion criterion. 324 aged persons were studied. Neugarten´s questionnarie was applied to determine psychological welfare. They also took part in a survey prepared by the investigators to collect general variables (age, sex, marital status, occupation and educational level) and some variables of their life style, such as: working activity and its characteristics, free time and its use, physical exercise, drinking and smoking habits, personal relations and social contacts. Some elements of the way of life that may influence on the feeligs of comfort, the health perception and the morbidity reported by the own individual in terms of symptoms or indispositions, as well as the chronic diseases of each of them were explored taking the family physician as a source
