A descriptive study was carried out in the family planning department of Santos Suárez for 1 year, since April 1998. The sample consisted in the total amount of women over 35 years old, who for the first time attended the family planning department and filled out a questionaire. Data were processed by the percentage calculation. It was concluded that the attendance of women over 35 years old to the family planning department was low. There was a predominance of those women with a stable union (82.6 %), pre-universitary educational level (60.9 %), and working women (69.6 %). The existence of other preconception reproductive risk factors different from age was low (39.12 %) and the majority chose the intrauterine devices and the injectable contraceptives containing only progrestational hormones.
