In this work the medical histories of patients between the months of January and March of 1999 were revised, at the Villa Clara Provincial Blood Bank. Data were processed by manually and presented on a statistic chart created to such effect. In donors selection is important to determine if they are in good health condition with the aim of protecting the recipient donor against damage to his own health and the recipient against diseases. In our country it plays a very important role for this the specialist on Integral General Medicine (IGM), main responsible for primary health care. The results of our investigation showed difficulties in blood donor selection in Santa Clara municipality, among which it is relevant that the number of voluntary donors at the Blood Bank was scarce as compared to the number of relative donors or direct donors. There was also little amount of female donors (116) as compared to male donors (2 596). It was concluded that the donors average age was high (33 years old), since there were few young people attending the blood bank with ages from 18 to 24. The number of first time donors was insufficient.
