Based on previous papers made by the authors with other specialists and reported by literature, a group of psychological traditional test and other created for this study were applied to determine the emotional and intellectual state of a sample of workers from a polyclinic in Havana City. The professional competence perceived by the managers as well as the one perceived by the own professionals was determined by using Licker?s scale. The results were correlated and it was proved that the stress produced by working in the community influences on the cognitive functioning of the health professionals. The development of the ability to listen patiently improves a lot professional competence in primary health care. It is recommended to carry out psychopedagogical and managerial interventions to improve the emotional state of the health workers at the primary health care level
