The main concepts on the physiopathology of pruritus are dealth with. The 2 large classificatory groups used to include those patients attended at the physician's office for this reason are shown. Details are given on the fundamental causes and the indispensable complementary tests to be indicated at the primary health care level according to the classificatory group of the patient are approached
