VAZQUEZ MACHADO, Andrés. Caracterización clínico epidemiológica del síndrome depresivo. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.3, pp.227-233. ISSN 0864-2125.

94 patients that visited the psychiatrist's office in Cauto Cristo, Granma, Cuba, due to a depressive syndrome were studied in order to describe some of their clinical and epidemiological characteristics. All the subjects participated in an interview structured to know demographic data, clinical characteristics, vital events, suicidal behavior in the individual and his relatives and nosological diagnosis; this latter according to the criteria of DSM IV. There was a predominance of women, of the group aged 35-54 and of those having a partner. The most frequent diagnoses were dysthymic disorder, adaptational disturbance with depressive mood and major depressive disorder. The depressive episodes began in the third and fourth decades of life. 28.5 % of the depressed have had a present or previous suicide attempt and that conduct was also frequent among their relatives. Women had more vital events than men and the commonest were the conflicts with the partners and other members of the family. The symptoms were similar in both sexes. The depressive mood, the lack of interest and enjoyment in the activities and the sensation of loss of energy or fatigue were the most frequent symptoms referred by the patients
