Summary A descriptive analytical study of the assistance demand in the area of internal medicine of the Emergency Services of "Dr.Luis Díaz Soto" Hospital and "Dr. Mario Escalona Reguera" Polyclinic was conducted from May 29th, 1995, at 8 a.m., to June 6th, 1995, at 7:59 a.m. In order to know the behavior of the demand, its distribution was studied as regards age, sex, horary groups (working and nonworking hours) and the severity of the pathologies, which were classified into emergencies, hospital urgencies, primary urgencies and nonurgencies. It was concluded that there was an association with a very high statistical significance between age and the type of demand. It was also observed a predominance of primary urgencies and nonurgencies among the young patients, who received attention mainly at working hours
