Summary The organization of the health system in Cuba that is based on Primary Health Care will have to undertake the study and implementation of economic evaluation. The present communication allows to deal with concepts related to Health Economics. Definitions of economy, economic evaluation, economic efficiency, cost, and cost-benefit of opportunity are approached in the context of a hypothetical example of a health problem in primary care. It was concluded that the use of economic evaluation offers a more comprehensive framework for analyzing health problems.
