A synthesis is made on how to approach the smoking patient in our daily practice. The Family Physician is given elements on this harmful habit and instruments that allow him to identify and take part in the stages of the process of abstinence in order to achieve an adequate management that makes possible a successful reduction of the rate of smokers in our communities.
