A psychosocial analysis on the role of health promotion in facing up to the problem of suicide was made. Various psychosocial aspects relating both categories to the health improvement and higher quality of life are assessed. Social participation, work with the family, the school and other human groups of reference and work with the individual are analyzed as important activities to be developed and put into practice in our communities; they will help to improve health and achieve a better quality in the preparation and implementation of education for health processes at community-wide, family and individual levels. The influence of social cognitive aspects of health promotion is studied. In general, a number of orientations and suggestions are provided to strengthen this task in the primary health-care area.
