Abstract

YANES CALDERON, Margeris  and  CHIO NARANJO, Ileana. Life quality in middle-aged women. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.2. ISSN 0864-2125.

A retrospective descriptive study of 76 climateric patients seen by doctor during two years or more was carried out. Over 65% were at perimenopause phase. Fifty-five were under hormone therapy and required at least 2 months of treatment to be able to experience some real improvement of initial symptoms. At present, women live longer than in the past. A century ago, few women reached 50 years of age but nowadays, their life expectancy is about 80 years, which means that the common woman can live more than one third of her life after the menopausal phase has begun. One important key to take the best advantage of these years is to take the right decisions as far as her health state is concerned. It is considered highly convenient to keep this medical service to give advice, to manage and follow-up women in this life stage.

Keywords : Climaterium; menopause; hormone therapy.
