Some ideas and reflexions collected by the authors along 20 years of participation in scientific meetings, workshops, seminars and debates, where the topic of primary health care and the the family physician has been approached, are exposed. Ideas related to this physician, his work, evaluation and control of the activities he carries out, diagnosis and treatment, teaching and research, are given aimed at disseminating a material that may be useful for those working at the primary health care level.
