Emphasis is made on the importance of the treatment of the health problems at the primary health care level and different variables are analysed. Twenty basic principles are exposed to this end and it is insisted on the correct diagnosis, the doctor-patient relation, the risk-benefit relation, the comprehensive treatment to patients, the new drugs, the objectives and individualization of the treatment, the management of the multiple problems, the therapeutics in the elderly, the family as a unit of attention, the fulfillment of the medical indications, the therapeutic failures and the adverse effects of the treatment. Some elements to be taken into account for a right prescription are given.
