ALONSO URIA, Rosa María et al. Pregnancy in adolescence: some biopsychosocial factors. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.5-6. ISSN 0864-2125.

A descriptive prospective and comparative study was undertaken between 2 population groups to identify some biopsychosocial factors present in both groups: group A was composed of all the adolescent mothers that received attention at the Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa from January 1st to December 31st, 2001, and group B included 506 mothers aged 20-35 ( the double of the adolescent mothers). The information was collected by a survey validated and prepared for the study. Some biopsychosocial factors were identified. The statistical processing for qualitative and quantitative variables was carried out by using the information obtained. The incidence of pregnancy in adolescence was 13.2 %. It was observed a predominance of pregnancy in late adolescence, accounting for 52.9 %. The educational level was low in 86.2 %, whereas 82.2 % were housewives. It is stressed the importance of counselling to pregnant adolescents to have an adequate treatment of gestation and their offspring, as well as of the role of sexual education in the reproductive health.
