An analysis of primary health care is made starting from the fundamental thematic axis the students from the Latin American School of Medical Sciences have during their rotation and stay in the polyclinics, in order to integrate this concept. Examples are given of some doubts that appeared in relation to the topic during the rotation so as to clear up the main objective of this health level. The importance of the integrality of actions, of the community participation, of the family physician and nurse's actions, and of the prevention and promotion of health in this context is also analysed. Some of the concepts of primary health care that have been dealt with through history are exposed in a summarized way. It is stressed the relation that should exist among the different health care levels.
