Resumen

GARCIA ROCHE, René G. et al. Sexual relation and the use of condom in adolescents and young people from a health area. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 0864-2125.

The sexually transmitted infections in general and, specially, HIV/AIDS in adolescents and young individuals, are a serious health problem. The risk for suffering from them is very related to sexual behavior and the ways to protect oneself, among other factors. This led us to conduct the study to identify the sexual behavior and the use of condom as a means of protection from these diseases, and as a previous stage to an intervention study. The sample was composed of 100 adolescents and young people from a health area of Centro Habana municipality. A self-applied questionnaire was designed. The main results were as follows: 61 % of the surveyed had an active sexual life, the initiation of sexual relations occurred between 15 and 19 years old in 44 %, and before 20 years old in 55 %.Condom was never used in 30 % of the females surveyed, and ocassionally in 49 %. The main causes given not to use it were that it was uncomfortable and that her partner did not like it.

Palabras clave : Sexual behavior; use of condom; female adolescents and young girls.
