The positive diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and, in particular, the strategy to be used to do this task, are exposed in this article. Reference is also made to some situations that may simulate the existance of diabetes mellitus in a patient, and a diagnostic flow chart is proposed to illustrate the conduct to be followed in every specific situation to attain an accurate positive diagnosis of this disease.
