Abstract

MARTINEZ URIARTE, Esperanza; MULEN CASTILLO, Sandra  and  RIVERA LIAS, Magda. Tuberculosis: epidemiologic profile in the population of “Vedado” University Polyclinic. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.2. ISSN 0864-2125.

A retrospective, descriptive and observational study was conducted among 3 910 patients seen in “Vedado” University Polyclinic from 2000 to 2005 to characterize the tuberculosis screening and to know its mortality and morbidity in the health area. Percentage statistical method, rates, and rate standardization were applied. It was concluded that the screening fulfils the impact indicator in the year 2000. During this 5-year period, 19 patients were diagnosed tuberculosis. A higher morbidity was observed in 2000 and 2001. There was an evolution towards cure in 17 patients, whereas two died. The age group 65 and over was the most involved, with a predominance of males and of lung tuberculosis. All the patients belonged to risk groups.
